Late April Blog
HELLO, I have a nice little dressing room that used to belong to Elaine Paige in The West End and we are a week into the Grumpy 2 run at The Novello, hoorah a theatre more or less bang slap on my bus route.
Please come and see the show if you’re in town, it’s very near Covent Garden and there’s a Loch Fyne for lovely fish dishes round the corner, we Ladies have been in twice so far and I am a big fan of the char grilled squid.
Now that I’ve more or less got my show legs, (the first week of any show is just a killer), it’s quite nice to have the day to potter and catch up on writing the second series of Twilight baby 2 which Ms Julie Balloo and I are doing for radio 4- talking of which –did you catch any of the ‘Meet David Sedaris’ progs?- I am a huge fan of his and if you haven’t come across him, treat yourself to one of his books, though I don’t think you can beat listening to him telling his tales on the radio.
The daughter girl has gone back to uni, and we miss her little yellow head, but all is tidy and the laundry basket is low.
I have bought a good pair of black linen trousers by a label called Oska- which are the perfect cut of short stubby legged women- I am now paranoid about stepping out in the wrong thing as I was unfortunately photographed arriving at the Loose Women studio, wearing a v bad skirt and this photo was circulated on twitter, saying I looked like an OAP- buggeration, the skirt- which is actually a really nice Cos number, has now been relegated to the bin-liner of shame, I was bright red with fury and embarrassment for an entire day, I then ‘got over myself’.
Sometimes you’ve got to put things into context- poor old Iceland and it’s regurgitating volcano, we went there last year, to watch an Icelandic production of the first Grumpy show- they were so lovely to us and v apologetic about the trouble they’d caused us re the banks- they’ll be absolutely gutted by this-
Course the other thing that rumbles on is the election- which hasn’t elicited as many good jokes so far as the volcano- I’ll leave you with my favourite-
What’s the difference between the Icelandic volcano and Cheryl Cole?
The volcano’s still blowing ash.
RECENTLY I HAVE SEEN
Is That All There Is ?- A nicely performed physical piece of Fringe theatre by a v promising company called Inspector Sands at The BAC-I went with the daughter- it reminded me of being very happy watching shows in Edinburgh-
The Henry Moore- at Tate Britain- marvellous, wonderful, moving, if a bit busy- the man was a genius- can’t say I was very impressed by the Tate cafĂ© mind- very scruffy.
Lots of repeats of Coach Trip- my brain hasn’t been able to handle anything too strenuous whilst we were opening the show- you can’t beat a bit of tour guide Brendon.
