Jan blog 2010
Hello, really too late to be saying Happy New Year- so we can forget all that nonsense, though I will say- I made the most phenomenal fish pie to herald in 2010- preceded by my now famous pea soup.
Yes I have the Jamie Oliver twenty minute supper app on my I phone, I am an iphone convert, I am an iphone disciple- I am an iphone fanatic and you don’t want me sitting next to you on the bus with my iphone showing you all my games.
The girl child is back at uni and the house is all neat and tidy and I don’t have to have the fridge rammed to the rafters- ah but I miss her little face and her pitter-pattering around –
Have had house- guests however, the TV producer Judith Holder came down from Hexham to work on new projects- all top secret of course- though I can tell you we are toying with a new live show for Edinburgh- other work news for 2010 is that me and Julie Balloo have got another Radio 4 series of Twilight Baby- which I am v pleased about and (fingers crossed) it seems there is a good chance of Grumpy 2 going out on the road again in the Autumn- oh and I have some solo stand up gigs- which makes me feel a bit freaked out-especially as the first one is next week in Oldham! Haven’t done a solo gig in over six months and I still have this book to finish……
Judith taught me how to make a basic white sauce, I made cauliflower cheese for the first time in my entire life- I will be fifty in March- there are some areas in my life that I need to catch up on, she also bought me a pinny she’d made from some old duvet covers, she had been to a class and learnt how to do this! The pinny came with a label saying that it was hand made by Judith- which I think was a bit showy offy.
Listen, I’ve just unnerved myself by thinking about the stand up- I’m going to go and try and write some jokes- ha
Since I last blogged
I have- FINISHED reading ‘A Fraction of The Whole’ by Steve Tolz- and it’s a great book, and even if it is too long, it’s some of the best funniest writing I’ve read in years.
Am now on Sarah Waters, The Little Stranger- which reads a bit like a grown up Bunty story, but I’m loving it- think I’m going to get through it loads quicker than the Tolz.
I AM SMELLING OF
‘This works- Deep calm bath oil’ seriously divine- a really strong bath oil reeking of lavender and vetiver.
I HAVE SEEN
A number of Xmas dvd’s – enjoyed ‘Moon’ best, the weird little art house movie by Duncan Bowie- also liked ‘Unrelated’ by Joanna Hogg, basically about a woman old enough to know better make a fool of herself on a Tuscan holiday, fantastic performance and really uncomfortable to watch- in a good way.
ROGER HIORNS- blue grotto, the Turner Prize nominated artist’s ex council flat which he filled with copper sulphate and left to crystallize into a thing of beauty- a piece of magic in SE1
ROPE- at the Almeida- the Hitchcock movie on stage- all very well done – but very straight, think I was expecting something a bit more mad- but it was terribly traditionally, some lovely performances- but it didn’t set me on fire- lovely supper after at Ottolenghi on Upper St after - hmmm god I’m getting so greedy in my old age- speak soon, that’s if I’m not too fat to type.
